Fix the "sun did me
dirty" issues.

A targeted flash of light that helps fade brown spots and calm redness, for skin that looks clearer, brighter, and more even. No downtime drama.

§ 01, The Treatment Intense Pulsed Light · "Photofacial"
What it is

A targeted flash
of light.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, but you can just think of it as a targeted flash of light that helps improve color issues in the skin.

It's commonly called a photofacial because it focuses on the two big culprits that make skin look older or uneven: brown pigment from sun damage, and redness from visible surface blood vessels.

One treatment, two targets. No downtime drama.

§ 02, The Two Targets Brown pigment & red vessels
What IPL actually goes after

Two color problems. One treatment.

IPL is uniquely good at this combo. Light energy is absorbed by darker pigment or red areas, and that targeted heat is what creates the improvement.

No. 01 · Brown

Sun spots, uneven tone, mottled patches.

The "sun-damage album" you've been collecting.

Sun damage shows up as brown spots, freckle-like patches, and that mottled, unevenly-tanned look that doesn't match the rest of your skin.

IPL targets darker pigment in the skin and breaks it up, which is why spots often darken slightly in the days after a session, then flake off and fade.

  • Sun spots & age spots on face, neck, hands, chest
  • Uneven tone from years of UV exposure
  • Mottled or patchy complexion
No. 02 · Red

Flushed look, visible vessels, overall redness.

The "I always look heated" issue.

Whether it's a constantly-flushed cheek, visible tiny vessels around the nose, or an overall redness that's just there, IPL can calm it.

The light energy is absorbed by the red areas in your skin. The targeted heat reduces what your eye reads as redness, leaving a more even, calmer tone.

  • Tiny visible vessels on cheeks and around the nose
  • Overall flushed appearance
  • Redness left behind by old breakouts or sun stress
§ 03, How It Works Light, absorbed, targeted
The simple version

Customized to your skin.
Selectively focused.

Here's the simple version: the light energy is absorbed by the darker brown pigment or the red areas in your skin. That targeted heat is what creates the improvement.

Because everyone's skin tone and pigment patterns are different, we customize the treatment to selectively focus on the brown and/or red areas you want to improve.

Most people need 1 to 3 treatments for noticeable results, depending on how much sun damage and redness is there to work with.

§ 04, Concern Map Where IPL works
Where it works

Face, neck, chest. Hands, too.

IPL treats more than just the face. Check the legend for the areas it targets, and any not pictured.

A field guide to the concerns

Two color problems, head to chest.

IPL is most often booked for the face, but it works just as well on the neck, chest, and the hands, areas that quietly show sun damage before the face catches up.

  • iii.Visible Tiny VesselsAround the Nose

Also commonly treated: hands. The back of the hands collects sun damage like a quiet archive, IPL works there too.

What to expect

Your appointment, in three steps.

From skin check to back-to-your-day. Most sessions are quick and the recovery is minimal.

i.

Skin check & plan

We look at your skin tone, your spots, and your redness, then map a realistic plan based on what's actually there to treat.

ii.

The treatment

You'll feel quick warm snaps of light. It's generally very tolerable, most people describe it as more annoying than painful.

iii.

Simple aftercare

We'll give you straightforward instructions. Most return to normal life right after, but read on for the one rule that's non-negotiable.

protect
SPF
The one rule that matters most

Sunscreen is non-negotiable.

If you don't protect the skin after treating pigment, you're basically inviting the spots back. Years of careful work, undone by one unprotected beach day.

If you're planning a vacation, lots of outdoor time, or you've been tanning, tell us. Timing matters. We'll work around it.

And once we've cleared what we cleared, keep wearing sunscreen. Every day. Yes, even when it's cloudy.

§ 05, Honest Expectations Results & downtime
i. Results timeline

Spots darken first. Then fade.

This part can be counterintuitive, but it's how IPL works.

  • Within 1 to 3 weeks, brown spots often get darker first, then flake off and fade
  • Redness usually calms down and overall tone looks more even
  • Many people see results with 1 to 3 treatments
If you've spent years collecting sun damage like it was a hobby, you may need more sessions. But you'll still see improvement along the way.
ii. Downtime & side effects

Low downtime.
Manageable side effects.

IPL is usually a low-downtime treatment. Most people return to their day right after.

  • Mild redness for a short time
  • A warm or slightly sunburned feeling
  • Dark spots getting temporarily darker before they fade

Before you book

The questions everyone asks.

  • Not really. A facial cleans and calms the surface. IPL targets pigment and redness deeper in the skin. It's a correction treatment, not just maintenance.

  • Most people need 1 to 3 treatments for noticeable improvement, but it depends on your skin and how much sun damage or redness you have.

  • They often darken first, then flake off and fade over the next couple of weeks. This is normal and expected, it's the treatment working.

  • Usually minimal. You may be pink for a bit, and spots may look darker before they lighten.

  • Common areas are the face, neck, hands, and chest. We'll customize based on what you want to improve.
